Powerchip Technology Corporation (PTC) was founded in Hsinchu Science Park in December 1994. An 8-inch fab was completed in 1996, and DRAM production commenced. Subsequently, the first 12-inch wafer fab entered mass production in 2002, and over time, expanded to three 12-inch wafer fabs with a total monthly capacity of 100,000 wafers.
In 2008, PTC's factory was spun off as Maxchip Electronics Corp. and entered the foundry business market. In 2018, Maxchip was renamed Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC) and successfully transformed from a DRAM manufacturer into a foundry service provider. To further affirm its market positioning, in May 2019 PTC transferred related assets and business of its three 12-inch fabs in Taiwan to PSMC, which leads all subsequent foundry business activities in Taiwan.
After the completion of the corporate restructuring, PTC changed its name to Powerchip Investment Holding Corporation (PIHC) and became holding company, where Dr. Frank Huang continues to serve as the Chairman and Mr. Milton Shieh as the President. PSMC, Taiwan and NSC, China.
